Time and again composers have sought stylistic fusions and contrasts - from combining different European dance movements in Baroque suites, Mozart’s “alla turca” to Strawinsky's “tango aleman”. And like the roused enchanted weaver and amateur player Zettel (Bottom’s dream) from Shakespeare's “A Midsummer Night’s Dream”, the listener asks himself if he heard right in his dream: lured by the familiar, he is led a pretty dance, spirited away into something else, something very personal, between decadent tango, blaring West Coast guitar minimalism, Arabian oud improvisations and a drifting bluesy rock tour de force à la Jimi Hendrix.
